The Game: Face-to-Face

BGB News - 3rd Week of February 2021

After the announcement of Umbra Via last month, Pandasaurus Games has now announced their second major 2021 release for the US, The Game: Face to Face. An all new 2-player twist on their popular 2015 release, The Game, which was nominated for the Spiel de Jahres and a Golden Geek Award. While the original version of The Game was cooperative, this new twist pits two players up against one another, racing to be the first to. get rid of all their cards. Here's a brief overview of this new version from the publisher's website:

"The duel for two... The Game: Face to Face features gameplay similar to the evergreen hit The Game with players laying down cards from their hand in ascending and descending piles. However, now the game is limited to two players who are competing to get rid of their cards first. You want to win on your own, but to advance, you must inevitably help your opponent...
On your turn, you’ll play at least 2 cards from your hand of 6. The twist comes from where you can play them. Of course, your own ascending and descending piles are fair game and follow the normal rules of The Game.
But, exactly once per turn, you can play a card on one of your opponent’s piles, breaking all rules. This ultimately helps them out, as it pushes whatever pile you played on away from its upper limit."

Originally released in Europe in 2017, this new version is expected to be released in April of this year and can be preordered for $15 direct from the publisher here. It was designed by Steffen Benndorf and Reinhard Staupe and takes 2 players around 20 minutes to play.
